An Interview With Revenue Manager Tobi Evennett

Tobi Evennett has a strong background in Revenue Management and has been a valued client of Avon Data Systems for many years.

I recently caught up with Tobi to find out more about his new revenue management company Inn-View.

Can you give me an overview of your new business Inn-View?

We offer full revenue and reservation management services to hotels who wouldn’t normally be able to have a dedicated revenue manager or reservations team.

We look after all revenue management reporting, pricing, distribution management, rate loading, strategy and OTA relationship management.

Our reservation service runs seven days a week and includes telephone enquiry and reservation handling, email management, group booking management, reservation entry checks, pre-arrivals checks (highlighting any key requests and guests), provisional booking management, online booking processing, no-show processing, reservation support for on-site teams and much more.

We are able to offer a cost effective per room per day model that is a fraction of the cost of employing people full time on-site.

How long have you been running the business and what inspired you to start it up?

The business was started five and a half years ago and has grown steadily since then. My background was large chain properties – and I have been a revenue manager for almost 10 years.

Reservation management was a temporary service initially set up to help clients during lockdown, easing the pressure on them by taking care of their guests and the process of moving bookings and handling enquiries. It became clear that this was something that a number of clients didn’t want back so we decided to make it a permanent offering.

How many clients do you currently have?

We currently look after 16 properties that range from 50 bedrooms in a city centre to smaller pubs with rooms in the Cotswolds.

What has been the most interesting aspect of the work you do so far?

Because of the range of properties we work with, no two days are ever the same. Each property is truly unique and has its own specific needs. My job is to make sure those needs are met.

I also love the range of guests we get to speak with every day. With the recent lockdown, it became apparent that in some cases we could be the only person someone has interacted with in a day, it was quite humbling to know that you were making someone feel a little less alone.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge so far?

The biggest challenge has probably been technology in a lot of cases.

Initially, it was access to the property’s PMS (Property Management System) – thankfully now all my clients use Avondata’s hotel software which is cloud hosted or accessible using their remote app, HE-Remote.

More recently it has been phone lines, and finding solutions that will facilitate the calls we receive. Due to the speed at which we had to initially set up the service we had to go for a quick fix, thankfully we have now found an excellent permanent solution that is now in place and works very well.
