New online travel booking platforms to look out for

Most hoteliers consider online travel agents (OTAs) as a necessary evil. While well-established OTAs such as and Expedia bring in huge amounts of business and extend many hotels’ marketing reach far beyond their own capabilities, they also claim hefty commissions for each booking of betw

Happily for hoteliers a number of new online booking services and apps have been entering the market offering to redress the balance by taking a smaller cut of the hotels’ earnings. This is music to hoteliers’ ears so unsurprisingly these start-ups have been gaining ground.

Here are three companies hoteliers should take note of this year:

Hotel Bonanza

Set up by two hoteliers, Suzie Barber and Bhavin Swaly, who were tired of paying the high commission charged by other websites, Hotel Bonanza charges a fixed rate of eight per cent. It also offers consumers a membership scheme giving five per cent off every booking, in exchange for a £10 annual fee. Since its launch 18 months ago Exeter-based Hotel Bonanza has successfully secured 10,000 hotel listings on its site.

Hotel Tonight

Cashing in on the growing trend for consumers to book late, Hotel Tonight enables users to find cheap hotel room deals at the last minute. It is already available in hundreds of destinations across 17 countries. With a clear focus on the consumer, the app allows users to ‘gift’ rooms to friends and a ‘Snap your stay’ feature encourages users to upload images of their hotel rooms to gain credits of $5 to $10. For hotel partners it is a great way to increase occupancy and drive up revenue.

This website and app allows travellers to book hotel rooms for a few hours for a shower and a quick daytime rest. With more than 2000 hotels in 15 countries, Dayuse benefits hotels by offering them an additional revenue stream on any available rooms and other facilities.

There are many more young companies looking at innovative new ways to link guests with hotels, so all hoteliers should keep an ear to the ground for new potential partners which could bring them more business. As a leading PMS provider with hotel channel manager, we work hard with all our hotel clients to ensure they make the most out of each and every one of these bookings, by running their hotels as efficiently as possible and maximising all revenue streams.
